Harvard's Saretsky Named USTFCCCA Northeast Region Women's Coach of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A week removed from leading the Harvard women's track and field team to the title at the Indoor Heptagonal Championships, director of Harvard track and field/cross country Jason Saretsky was named Women's Coach of The Year for the northeast region by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday.
"This award really is a testament to the incredible staff we have here at Harvard," said Saretsky. "As a combined program, everyone on staff greatly contributed to our team success."
In his seventh year at the helm of the Harvard track and field and cross country programs, Saretsky saw his women's indoor team capture the Ivy League title on its home track Feb. 23-24. The Heps crown is the first for the Harvard women since 2000, and their winning score of 117 points is the highest in team history at the Indoor Heptagonal Championships. At the Ivy League meet, the Harvard women produced four event champions, two meet records and 18 total All-Ivy nods over the course of the two-day competition.
Junior co-captain Adabelle Ekechukwu was named the female Most Outstanding Field Performer, and also set the all-time Ivy League record in the weight throw at the event. Earlier this season, Saretsky saw freshman Martina Salander set the all-time Ivy League mark in the pentathlon in her first collegiate competition. In all, seven women's school records fell over the course of the 2012-13 indoor season.
Both Salander and Ekechukwu will represent the Crimson at the upcoming 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
