2013-14 Indoor Track & Field Season Kicks Off This Weekend
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 2013-14 Ivy League
Indoor Track & Field season is upon us.
All but Columbia will open their campaigns this weekend as the Ancient Eight looks to improve on last year’s season that saw Princeton’s men’s DMR squad and Dartmouth senior Abbey D’Agostino combine for three national championships at NCAAs. D’Agostino, who recently became the first Ivy League runner on either the men’s or women’s side to win the cross country national title, won both the 3K and 5K to become the first the first-ever American woman to win two distance events at one NCAA Championship meet, either indoor or outdoor. Thanks to her efforts, Dartmouth finished 11th overall as a team with 20 points.
At the 2012 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, Harvard won on the women’s side and Cornell won on the men’s side. The Crimson opens its title defense with the Harvard Open on Saturday, an event in which Dartmouth will participate. The Big Red, meanwhile, will host the Greg Page Relays on Friday and Saturday.
Friday features three events. Besides the Greg Page Relays, Dartmouth will compete in a Multi-Event at URI and Penn travels to Lehigh to participate in the Fast Times Before Finals.
On Saturday, Brown, Princeton and Yale kick off their seasons with the Brown Invitational, New Year’s Invitational and Yale Season Opener, respectively.
Columbia will open its season on Jan. 18 in a tri-meet with Dartmouth and Yale in Hanover, N.H.
