Two Ivies Named to Academic All-District Volleyball Team

PRINCETON, N.J. - Two Ivy League volleyball players have been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District teams for District I as voted on by members of the CoSIDA. Yale senior outside hitter Cat Dailey (Newport Beach, Calif.) was named to the first team, while Harvard senior setter Lily Durwood (La Jolla, Calif.) earned second team honors.

Dailey, the 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year, has averaged 4.12 kills and 3.23 digs per set this season, guiding the Bulldogs to a 17-3 record. She is hitting .277 and has also contributed 19 services, 20 blocks and 15 assists. She earned Most Valuable Player honors at both the Yale Invitational and Seton Hall Invitational this season, and also claimed Ivy League Player of the Week and CVU.com Top Performer distinctions for her performance at the Yale Invitational.

As a first team honoree, Dailey, who holds a 3.41 grade point average as a History major, will now advance for consideration on the on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America ballot later this month.

It is the second straight all-district award for Durwood, a psychology concentrator, who leads the team and is second in the Ivy League in assists with 9.32 per set. She stands third all-time at Harvard in career assists with 3,221 to her credit. She is also tied for seventh on the all-time service aces list with 87.

As a junior, Durwood was named Academic All-Ivy League and served as team captain. She handed out 1,034 assists for the seventh most in Harvard annuals. She works as a Drug and Alcohol Peer Advisor (DAPA) on campus and volunteers Boston Children's Hospital working with Dr. Norman Spack on gender identity issues.

Nominees for the Academic All-District distinction must earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 and excel athletically as a starter or key reserve.
