PRINCETON, N.J. -- Dartmouth, Princeton and
Yale all opened 2010 play with a 3-0 record while all eight Ivy
squads picked up at least one win during their first week of
play.
Another busy slate of non-league action is upon the teams this
week, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7 with Princeton visiting Seton
Hall. Brown hosts Providence on Wednesday before all eight teams
take to the court Friday and Saturday.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth junior setter Kendall Houston (Austin,
Texas) was the catalyst behind the Big Green’s opening
weekend play, leading the squad to a 3-0 record. Dartmouth claimed
a 3-0 win over Jacksonville and 3-1 victories over Binghamton and
Lehigh to be named co-champions of the Sacred Heart Invitational in
Fairfield, Conn.
Houston averaged 9.45 assists, 1.91 kills, 2.27 digs and 0.82
blocks per set, earning co-MVP and all-tournament honors. Her nine
blocks (five solo and four block assists) led the Big Green. She
also added three services aces. Houston’s top match was
against Binghamton when she recorded a career-first with a
triple-double. She had 10 kills, 39 assists and 10 digs.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman setter Kendall Polan (Cardiff, Calif.)
had a standout collegiate debut, guiding the Yale Bulldogs to a 3-0
record at the Yale Invitational. She quarterbacked the team in all
three matches, totalling 98 assists (12.25 per set). The rookie
added seven kills, two service aces, 19 digs and two block assists,
earning all-tournament honors.
In the Bulldogs’ 3-0 win over Rhode Island that clinched the
Invitational title, Polan had 47 assists, six digs and five kills.
She added 41 assists and 12 digs against Stony Brook and 10
assists, one service ace and one dig in a 3-0 win over
Quinnipiac.
