PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yale junior setter Kendall Polan (Cardiff, Calif.) notched a triple-double in the season opener against national power Texas A&M and earned a spot on the Yale Classic All-Tournament team as the Bulldogs went 2-1 to start the 2012 season.
Polan, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, opened the season with 17 kills, 18 assists, 15 digs and hit .350 in a 3-1 loss to Texas A&M. The next day, she notched 26 assists, 10 digs and six kills while hitting .417 against Stony Brook. Down 26-25 in the third, Polan used a nifty backset to set up Kelly Johnson who tied the match with a kill.
Later in the day, she just missed a triple-double with 24 assists, nine kills and eight digs with a hitting percentage of .643. Polan assisted on Johnson's kill to tie the third set at 18 before Yale scored seven of the final 11 points.
This marks Polan's third Player of the Week honors as she won the award twice as a sophomore (Sept 6. and Oct. 4, 2011). She won five Rookie of the Week honors in 2010 en route to being voted Ivy League Rookie of the Year.

Bither stepped into the setter's role and handed out 113 assists, dishing them out at a rate more than 10 per set. No slouch on the defensive side of things, she recorded double-digit digs in every match and helped out at net as well, stepping up into the front row and recording eight block assists.
Penn has won the last two Rookie of the Week honors as Bither follows Emma White, who shared the final award of the 2011 season with Yale's Mollie Rogers.
